Step by Step Instructions to Refacing

End Panels

  • Before applying the panels you will need to determine whether or not your cabinet sides have "scribes" (where the cabinet style extends past the cabinet side about 1/4" on an end cabinet).  If you do have scribes then you will need to either route them off with a router or fill in behind the scribe so the sides are flush with the side of the style.  Simply inserting a cut-to-fit 1/4" piece of  unfinished plywood or hardboard usually does the trick nicely.
  • Now apply the cut-to-size finished plywood to the cabinet end panels.  Apply wood glue to the back of the plywood (4), then fit it to the end panel.  Make sure it is flush with the front and bottom (5).
  • Use finish nails to secure. (6).
  • Using a sanding block with 150 grit sandpaper, sand the edges of the plywood to ensure that it is flush with the cabinet front frame (7).
  • Check entire cabinet for areas where unfinished wood is exposed, such as along the sanded edges of the plywood, and seal with spray adhesive or varnish (8).
